One of just 93 examples completed following the flight of the prototype in 1942, the Messenger surprised pilots and onlookers alike with its remarkable performance range. Designed as a STOL aircraft for military use, it was, unlike most slow-speed specialty aircraft (stall speed 22 knots!), capable of a respectable cruise of around 110 knots. The aircraft is fitted with an electric starter, and an ELT, but has no radios or TXP fitted

This Messenger started its civilian flying career in the UK as G-AKEZ as seen in the Gordon Reid B&W photo. It was displayed for a time painted as the camouflaged 'Monty's Messenger RG333, at the Torbay Aircraft Museum. Sold at the end of the 1980s its long restoration to airworthiness commenced with a major tear-down to replace the aging plywood skins. In 2006, the advanced restoration was sold to New Zealand where the slow and steady restoration to a high standard of airworthiness continued. The Messenger was test flown on 30th September 2025 and has been trouble-free since that time.
